From Taghazout to Essaouira on the Atlantic Coast

A slower coastal route for sea air, simple seafood, surf towns, and the blue hour over Essaouira's harbour.

Atlantic waves and a sandy Moroccan coastline

Morocco's Atlantic coast is a welcome change of tempo after the inland cities. The light is softer, the air smells of salt, and the day can be planned around a swim, a walk, and wherever the next good lunch appears.

Taghazout is for mornings

Start early for the best light and the quietest cafés. Even if you do not surf, the headlands around Taghazout are worth exploring on foot. A short drive inland brings you to argan country, where small cooperatives offer a more grounded stop than a souvenir shop on a tour bus.

Give Essaouira two nights

Essaouira is easy to visit in a day and much better when you do not. Walk the ramparts at sunset, return to the port for grilled fish, then spend a second morning wandering the quieter lanes of the medina before the day trippers arrive.
